Equipment Redundancy in a Healthcare Application
The environment, both built and natural, is critical to the healing process. Ainsworth Associates Mechanical Engineers just completed its final site observation at Carson Tahoe Regional Medical Center for the expansion of their central cooling plant. The project added a 1,200 Ton water cooled chiller with accompanying cooling tower and one of the largest plate-frame heat exchangers that our office has ever specified (to maximize water-side free cooling approach). The central plant addition serves to connect a nearby on-campus surgery center, but more importantly increase total cooling capacity for the main hospital so that when things come up on a hot summer day, as they tend to do, the talented facility operators are able to rely on backup equipment while performing maintenance tasks thereby increasing the probability of patients being none-the-wiser. When we do our job correctly, no one knows we were ever there. Thank you, Carson Tahoe, for the amazing partnership.
